Why I Never went to networking events

I never went to networking events when I was doing high finance recruiting.

As a student, you hear about all these events you should attend and all the people you could potentially meet.

While true for a lot of industries, it's not great for finance because:

  • You are only going to be meeting with HR professionals

  • No one will remember you when they meet 100+ other people

  • You will only have 2-3 mins to chat in a group setting (not 1-1)

Instead of attending events, do this:

  • Reach out to “Analyst” for a 1-1 coffee chat / online coffee

  • Ask questions about the role, company, and about themselves (make them: know, like & trust you)

  • End the conversation in a strategic way: Ask for recruitment next steps then a referral if they are involved, future opportunities, introductions to team members

PS. Want to go from non-target to landing high finance offers?
