Non-Target to High Finance (My Transformation)
I went to a complete non-target university (University of Ottawa).

It has only placed 5 people in investment banking since 2013-2023
It is ranked 15th out 19 universities which makes it challenging for me as a non-target to break in
In my first year, I thought my dream of breaking into high finance was over just because I went to my local university
How did I compete with students at Ivey & Queens (target schools)
1) Stacked professional experience: Had 3-4 accounting/finance internships between I landed within my 1st & 2nd year which made my profile stand out
2) Underdog mentality: Had a chip on my shoulder and knew I had to put in 2x the time, effort, and sacrifice into networking, technical prep, land relevant experience to gain a competitive advantage
3) Had a solid GPA 3.9/4.0 to show recruiters that I was a smart despite going to a non-target
Failure was not an option for me and I did everything within my control to make my dreams a reality
Focus on high leverage inputs and the outputs will naturally follow
PS. Are you a non-target eager to break into investment banking too?
